QUARTER 4 CURRICULUM OUTLOOK:
It's hard to believe but the final quarter of the year is here! We always end the year with some fun activities but very important learning is still happening!

MATH- Grade 4 Module 6: Decimal Fractions

This 20-day module gives students their first opportunity to explore decimal numbers via their relationship to decimal fractions, expressing a given quantity in both fraction and decimal forms. Utilizing the understanding of fractions developed throughout Module 5, students apply the same reasoning to decimal numbers, building a solid foundation for Grade 5 work with decimal operations.

Math HW Help: Duane Habecker on YouTube is a great resource. Search for 4th Grade Module # and Lesson #. He will review/model homework problems.

ELA- In ELA, we will begin one of the student's favorite units of the year! Our quarterly theme will be "Heroes" and we will study nonfiction and literary texts featuring heroes and the roles they play in our world. We will focus on how stories are used to explain phenomena in nature and how perspective can impact our view of the world. The extended literary text will be "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan. Students will be studying in depth one element of Greek mythology to teach their classmates about the element and it's role in our class novel. In writing, we will focus on persuasive and opinion writing. In vocabulary and word study, we will continue to study Greek and Latin roots through word inquiry and our WTW sorts. For the remainder of the year, students will have 2 weeks to study each sort due to their increased difficulty.

SCIENCE- In Science, we will continue to study Waves, Speed, and Energy.

SOCIAL STUDIES- We will study the Western Region with a test on 3/18. Additionally, we still start an finished the Southwestern Region. Our end of the year finale will feature our State Floats! More info to come soon!
