Erin's Law:
Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin's Law in January of 2013, which requires all schools in the state of Illinois to provide age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education programs for their students in grades Pre-K through 12. In response to this legislation, Frankfort School District 157-C will be adding, "Child Lures Prevention: Think First and Stay Safe", curriculum for the school year. The curriculum is available in the school office for parents to preview. Erin's law curriculum will be presented to our students during the week of January 22, 2019.

ELA - Our 3rd Quarter Unit is Perseverance! Throughout the unit students will consider why it is important to understand the perspective of others.
We will be reading selections about fictional characters and real-life heroes that persevere even when faced with adversity. We will begin the unit by reading a wonderful novel titled "Bud, Not Buddy." The literature skills that we will focus on include character traits, theme, setting, context clues and point of view. This week we will continue working on literature skills, and we will continue reading "Bud, Not Buddy."

Writing: Narratives - We will relate these stories to our 3rd Quarter unit by writing about a character that perseveres through a difficult challenge.

Word Study: Greek and Latin Roots

Math: Module 6 Fraction Decimals
This 20-day module gives students their first opportunity to explore decimal numbers via their relationship to decimal fractions, expressing a given quantity in both fraction and decimal forms. Utilizing the understanding of fractions developed throughout Module 5, students apply the same reasoning to decimal numbers, building a solid foundation for Grade 5 work with decimal operations. Previously referred to as whole numbers, all numbers written in the base-ten number system with place value units that are powers of 10 are henceforth referred to as decimal numbers, a set which now includes tenths and hundredths (e.g., 1, 15, 248, 0.3, 3.02, and 24.35).

Formative quizzes are given after every topic within a module. It is important for students to stay on top of the math lessons by completing their homework and their Zearn lessons. Duane Habecker provides wonderful video lessons that support our curriculum. Simply google his name, 4th grade and the lesson number.
