Brenda Grage - Fourth Grade  (Send e-mail)

Greetings from fourth grade!

Dear Families,

Please check our class page regularly to find nightly homework assignments and important dates.

Your partners in education,
Mrs. Grage & Ms. Draeger

Math: This week, we will be working on Module 6: Decimal Fractions. We will complete lessons 8-10 this week. We will take our mid module test on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Please continue to encourage your child to practice their math facts at home to increase success in this module.

Students should log in to Zearn at home to practice the skills they have learned in the classroom! Students are encouraged to Zearn each night.

ELA: Encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes each day. Our goal is to read 40 books in 4th grade.

Bucket List Projects are due March 18th.

This week, we will continue our Quarter 3 unit, "Perseverance" and explore our overarching essential question, "Why is Understanding Others' Perspective Important"

3rd Quarter Literature Skills include (RL4.1) referring to details in the text to explain or infer meaning, finding the main idea and important details, (RL4.2) determining the theme, summarizing text, (RL4.3) describing the character, setting or event in a text, (RL4.4) determining the meaning of words or phases, (RL4.6) comparing and contrasting the point of view from which different stories are narrated, and (RL4.9) comparing and contrasting the use of similar themes and topics.

This week in ELA, we will finish our third quarter novel, Bud, not Buddy. We will be describing characters, settings, and events in the story in depth using graphic organizers to collect text evidence.

We will be take our informational outcome assessment Monday and Tuesday.

Writing- This week, we will continue working on our narrative unit. We are learning about the structural elements required in a narrative.

Social Studies- The Southwest Region scrapbook is due on Wednesday, March 20th.

Erin's Law:
Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin's Law in January of 2013, which requires all schools in the state of Illinois to provide age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education programs for their students in grades Pre-K through 12. In response to this legislation, Frankfort School District 157-C will be adding, "Child Lures Prevention: Think First and Stay Safe", curriculum for the school year. The curriculum is available in the school office for parents to preview. Erin's law curriculum will be presented to our students during the week of January 22, 2019.

Invitation Reminder: We never want to have a child feel left out or have their feelings hurt by not receiving an invitation to a party. Even as adults, we know the emotional hurt from being excluded. This is why we highly discourage the passing out of invitations at school. The only exception is if you are inviting the whole class and the invitations are distributed by your childís teacher. Invitations are never to be distributed by a student or parent. Thank you for your cooperation.

If you have any questions, please contact your building administrator.
