Erin's Law:
Governor Pat Quinn signed Erin's Law in January of 2013, which requires all schools in the state of Illinois to provide age appropriate sexual abuse and assault awareness and prevention education programs for their students in grades Pre-K through 12. In response to this legislation, Frankfort School District 157-C will be adding, "Child Lures Prevention: Think First and Stay Safe", curriculum for the school year. The curriculum is available in the school office for parents to preview. Erin's law curriculum will be presented to our students during the week of January 22, 2019.

Walk Two Moons (novel)

ELA: We begin Quarter 3 with the novel "Walk Two Moons" by Sharon Creech. The following Literature and Informational Standards will be taught and assessed throughout the Quarter:

~I CAN quote accurately from a text when explicitly explaining or drawing inferences from a text. (R.L.5.1)
~I CAN determine the theme of a various text, how characters respond to challenges and how the speaker in a poem reflects on topic; summarize the text. (R.L.5.2)
~I CAN use context clues to determine meanings of words. (R.L5.4)
~I CAN explain how a series of chapters, scenes, or stanzas fits together to provide the overall structure of a particular story, drama, or poem. (R.L5.5)
~I CAN describe how a narratorís or speakerís point of view influences how events are described. (R.L.5.6)
~I CAN compare and contrast stories in the same genre with the same theme and topics. (R.L.5.9)

~I CAN quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences. (R.I.5.1)
~I CAN explain the relationships or interactions between two or more individuals, events, ideas, or concepts in a historical, scientific, or technical text based on specific information in the text. (R.I.5.3)
~I CAN determine the meaning of general academic and domain-specific words in text relevant to a topic or subject area. (R.I.5.4)
~I can integrate information from several texts on the same topic in order to write about as subject. (R.I.5.9)
