|Teacher Katrina Hyland - First Grade|
I am excited to be your child's teacher this year. Below is some information that will be helpful throughout the year.
Grand Prairie School runs off of a TIGER schedule. Our specials are not on a set day of the week, but instead are on an assigned T-I-G-E-R day. Grand Prairie office has a Tiger calendar if you need one. Below are our assigned days for specials.
I- NO Special
We have 30 minutes of P.E. everyday. Please make sure your child had appropriate shoes.
Daily Homework (Starting later in the year)- Each student has a purple fluency bag. In the bag there will be familiar books and a words their way list, These should be practiced nightly. Also, every Wednesday students should turn in their writing spiral with a new writing entry.
Math homework will come home when needed.
I will email you every Friday with a newsletter. This newsletter will let you know what is going on in the classroom. You will know what your child is learning. You will also learn about special events for our class.
Here are some additional things to do at home with your child.

Beginning the week of August 27th students in my class will participate in benchmark screenings provided by Fast Bridge Learning. Fast Bridge is District 157-C’s universal screening instrument. This assessment will be administered in the fall, winter and spring to help teachers determine which students are likely to meet the end of the year learning goals, which students may require intervention and help to determine advanced and honors placements for the following school year. This computer based assessment measures performance in reading and math. Individual fall results will be sent home at the beginning of October after all students have been tested. I look forward to working with your child this school year.
