Nicole Stauffacher - Third Grade

Our school will be starting the state assessments the first week of April. These assessments help us understand how our students are growing academically, compared to their peers across the state. This year, the English language arts and math assessment for grades 3-8 is called the Illinois Assessment of Readiness or IAR.
The Illinois Assessment of Readiness is almost exactly the same this year as the assessment that students took last year, only slightly shorter. The Illinois Assessment of Readiness measures the same Illinois Learning Standards and includes the same high-quality test questions that teachers and students have become familiar with over the past four years. Our students should feel confident showing what they know and can do on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness, even with the new test name and new look.
Students will take the tests on the computers they use every day in school. They will take math tests with their homeroom teacher and ELA tests with their ELA/homeroom teacher. To prepare for these tests, we have included the testing schedule and some suggestions to help prepare students at home.
3rd Grade Testing Schedule:
Date Test Time
Tuesday, April 9th ELA 10:30-12:15
Wednesday, April 10th ELA 10:30-12:15
Monday, April 15th Math 1 9:15-10:45
Tuesday, April 16th Math 2 9:15-10:45
Wednesday, April 17th Math 3 9:15-10:45
Make Ups Week of April 23rd

Before the testing window, students can access online practice tests at home on the website listed below. These practice tests give students the opportunity to see what the computer based test will look like and try out the different tools for entering their answers. We will be doing some of this in class but students are encouraged to practice at home as well.

Students will need the following supplies for testing days:
• Working headphones
• Water bottle
• Gum or mints (for testing windows only)
• Healthy snack
• Comfy clothes
Please ensure your child gets a quality night’s sleep on the evening prior to testing. Additionally, eating a healthy breakfast and lunch are important too.
Please contact your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns that you may have. We thank you in advance for your continued support throughout the school year. We look forward to seeing our students rock these assessments!

Thank you,
The 3rd Grade Team
